Parts of the French Riviera were evacuated late Tuesday and into Wednesday as forest fires burned swathes of land and threatened thousands of people, according to local police. More than 10,000 residents and tourists were moved after a forest fire started near the coastal commune of Bormes-les-Mimosas, around 40 km (nearly 25 miles) from Toulon, one of the country's southernmost towns.

Grifters Cash In on Subsidized Housing- As if the breeding program known as the welfare state were not producing government dependents quickly enough, Big Government has been subsidizing housing for needy tenants who do not exist:
An audit released last month found that managers of Section 8 housing in Jefferson County, Texas, defrauded the government by stealing the identities of former tenants and falsifying incomes.
According to the inspector general, Beverly Place Apartments in Groves billed the Department of Housing and Urban Development for “at least 97 tenants who did not exist or whose income eligibility was either falsified or unsupported.”

Some 600,000 migrants have reached Italy by sea from North Africa since 2014, making immigration a potent political issue and putting the country under increasing pressure to manage the new arrivals. Most have embarked from Libya, where people smugglers operate with impunity in the turmoil that has gripped the country since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.

A drone carrying a grenade infiltrated an ammunition dump in the Ukraine, setting off an explosion that caused an astounding billion dollars worth of damage. The incident points to the growing use of drones in wartime, particularly off the shelf civilian products harnessed to conduct sabotage and other attacks.
The drone is believed to have carried a ZMG-1 thermite grenade. Thermite, a combination of iron oxide (rust) and aluminum powder. The stuff burns extremely hot and easily could have gotten through wooden crates to detonate the munitions inside. The ammo dump is just 60 miles from the Russian/Ukrainian border, where fighting recently took place.
According to PM contributor David Hambling writing at Scout Warrior, it's not the first time military bases in Ukraine have been hit by drones. A similar attempt to blow up the Balakliya base took place in December 2015, when drones dropped 14 grenades. The fires were extinguished by Ukrainian servicemen, and one grenade, a ZMG-1, was recovered.

This massive new wind project is proof clean energy is doing fine under Trump- One of the nation’s largest power companies, American Electric Power, announced plans on Wednesday to purchase what it said would be the biggest U.S. wind farm in the state of Oklahoma, a strong signal of continued growth for renewables even under the Trump administration. The project, in cooperation with the Chicago-based developer Invenergy and GE Renewable Energy, will consist of 800 2.5-megawatt GE turbines that, collectively, will have the capacity to generate over 2 gigawatts of electricity. The total investment in the project will be $ 4.5 billion, and AEP projects $7 billion in customer savings over a 25-year time frame.

70 years ago , President Harry S. Truman signed the National Security Act, creating the Department of Defense, the National Security Council, the Joint Chiefs of Staff — and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
Sixteen years later — just one month after the Kennedy assassination — Truman published a bombshell in The Washington Post: “I have never had any thought that when I set up the CIA that it would be injected into peacetime cloak-and-dagger operations… It has become an operational and at times a policy-making arm of Government… so removed from its intended role that it is being interpreted as a symbol of sinister and mysterious foreign intrigue.”
When it comes to behind-the-scenes intrigue, no one could out-sinister Allen Dulles, director of the CIA from 1953 to 1961. Dulles’s job, simply put, was to hijack the US government — for the benefit of the wealthy.

Furious German businesses call for EU to threaten US after Russia sanctions- THE European Union should slap the United States with punitive sanctions in response to Washington hitting Moscow with financial restrictions, a leading German business group has declared. As anger boiled over, the industry association said the EU should consider retaliation. German businesses say measures passed by the US House of Representatives could threaten energy supply to Europe from Russia, as well as hitting business deals between the EU and Russia.

Boris Johnson has committed the UK’s two brand new aircraft carriers to freedom of navigation exercises in the fiercely contested waters of the South China Sea. In a pointed declaration aimed squarely at China, whose island-building and militarisation in the sea has unnerved western powers, the British foreign secretary said that when the ships came into service they would be sent to the Asia-Pacific region as one of their first assignments. “One of the first things we will do with the two new colossal aircraft carriers that we have just built is send them on a freedom of navigation operation to this area,” Johnson said in Sydney on Thursday, “to vindicate our belief in the rules-based international system and in the freedom of navigation through those waterways which are absolutely vital for world trade.”

The Left is howling with indignation over President Donald Trump’s announcement that so-called transgendered Americans will not be allowed to serve in the military. But instead of browbeating conservatives for our alleged “hate” of trans people, perhaps they should spend some time listening to the firsthand experiences of one. The Daily Signal has published a piece by Walt Heyer, who supports Trump’s decision…and “as someone who lived as trans-female for several years,” he writes, “I should know.” CRAZY! COMMENTS WORTH THE READ.
