Obama’s hyperpoliticization of the Justice Department is a giant step toward tyranny, the lasting damage from which may be among the most enduring aspects of his legacy. Already we have an Attorney General who seriously considers using the law to suppress scientific observations that undermine leftist ideology:
Attorney General Loretta Lynch acknowledged Wednesday that there have been discussions within the Department of Justice about possibly pursuing civil action against so-called climate change deniers.“This matter has been discussed. We have received information about it and have referred it to the FBI to consider whether or not it meets the criteria for which we could take action on,” Lynch said at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Justice Department operations.Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) raised the issue, drawing a comparison between possible civil action against climate change deniers and civil action that the Clinton administration pursued against the tobacco industry for claiming that the science behind the dangers of tobacco was unsettled.
One difference between climate change and cigarettes is that the former is unavoidable. Another is that the science is anything but settled regarding the global warming hoax. Recently revealed evidence suggests that there has been no actual warming for the past 60 years, completely refuting the theory of anthropogenic global warming. Nonetheless, leftist tyrants like Whitehouse would like to impose the theory by force, so as to justify higher taxes and more intrusive government regulation.
