CHIRAQ MURDER RATE DOUBLED



A recent string of murders brings Chicago's homicide rate to double the same time last year.
The city has recorded at least 95 homicides since the first of the year, compared to 47 last year, according to data kept by the  Tribune. The city has also more than doubled the amount of people shot - about 420 this year compared to 193 last year. 
Thirty-two people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, the youngest among them a 3-year-old boy shot in the leg in the Englewood neighborhood. 
The weekend shooting toll includes "one person killed and nine wounded from Friday evening to Saturday morning; three men killed and 14 people wounded from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning; and six people wounded from Sunday afternoon to Monday morning."
The first homicide for the weekend began on Friday night when a 20 year-old man was shot multiple times in the abdomen while standing outside his house. Another man was shot on Saturday morning and there were two more homicides on Monday morning.
