The reason Crusaders are particularly offensive to leftists is that after hundreds of years of violent Muslim conquest of Christian lands, the Crusaders finally took the fight to the enemy, liberating the Holy Lands so that pilgrims could visit them without being robbed, murdered, enslaved, et cetera. They were possibly the noblest warriors in history — well-to-do knights who spent their last pennies, endured incredible hardships, and faced terrifying odds because they knew their cause was right. Their courage and self-sacrifice have been an inspiration for centuries. Liberal ideologues hate them vociferously and malign them at every opportunity.
