A survey of the general public conducted
Oct. 30-Nov. 6 among 2,003 adults found that more than half of the
public thinks the nation does too much to try to solve world problems
and should “pay more attention to problems at home.”
For the first
time in nearly 40 years since the survey began, a majority – 53 percent
- says the United States plays a less important and powerful role as a
world leader than it did a decade ago. It was 1974 since more than half
of the public had the opinion.
America’s Place in the World -- released by the Pew Research Center
-- is a quadrennial survey of foreign policy attitudes conducted in
partnership with the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), a nonpartisan
membership organization and think tank specializing in U.S. foreign
policy.
