Not content to flush money down the all-lesbian WNBA, the NBA is planning another league possibly intended to signal its virtue:
The NBA and FIBA plan to launch a professional basketball league in Africa called the Basketball Africa League featuring 12 teams from the continent. Barack Obama himself “is expected to have a hands-on role.” Given how rapaciously he has cashed in on his fame, that probably means he will be getting his hands on the NBA’s cash, even if the venture is no more profitable than the WNBA, which loses $10 million per year. A point likely missed by zillionaire NBA players like LeBron James, who thinks he is oppressed despite having made $400 million from playing a game (and by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, who refers to basketball as “an economic engine”), is that basketball does not generate wealth. Someone else has to do that so as to give it to the players in return for entertaining them and keeping 5000 potential criminals off the street.
