ARMED CITIZEN

ARMED CITIZEN

A woman was at home taking a shower in Gwinnett County, Ga., when an intruder armed with a knife turned off her bathroom lights and attacked. The altercation caused the woman to fall and injure herself as she attempted to defend herself wielding the shower rod. In an attempt to appease the criminal, the woman offered him money. Uninterested, the attacker forced the woman into a bedroom. Once in the bedroom, the woman was able to retrieve a .22-caliber pistol and shoot the criminal several times, causing him to flee. The intruder did not get far, collapsing from his wounds just outside the home. The criminal died shortly after being taken to a local hospital.

Neighbors have shown support for the woman’s actions, with one stating, “Thank God she’s OK and she had a weapon to protect herself with.” Another neighbor echoed that sentiment, remarking, “That’s awesome that she had something to protect herself with… She’s very lucky and fortunate that she was able to defend herself. Good for her.” Police and have made clear that no charges will be filed against the woman, with Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter explaining, “She responded to the deadly threat with deadly force.” (The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Atlanta, Ga. 05/11/11)
