LONGVIEW, Texas, April 21 (UPI) -- Police in Texas said a man accused of stealing steaks from Walmart led officers on a high-speed chase and struck a police car with meat tossed from his window.
Authorities said the suspect stole an undisclosed number of steaks from the Walmart Neighborhood Market in Longview just after 11 a.m. Wednesday.
The ensuing police chase reached speeds exceeding 100 mph and crossed two counties before the man was apprehended by Upshur County sheriff's deputies and East Mountain police.
East Mountain police Sgt. Marc Nichols said the suspect attempted to get rid of some of the pilfered meats while fleeing police.
"It appears that there's steaks and meats of some sort flying out the windows, and one of them bounced off my patrol car. That's not something you think of people stealing, especially running from the police in the process. Today was a new one," Nichols told KLTV.
Nichols said the suspect surrendered after stopping on Highway 271 in the Union Grove area.
Investigators said the suspect, whose name was not released, is believed to be a heroin user.

  1. I worked part time at Piggly Wiggly during my youth. Once, we saw a woman- a big hog weighing at least 300 lbs stealing meats including 2 canned hams which she had removed from the cans and inserted the greasy hams into her bra cups. We were not allowed to stop a shoplifter in the store and could not physically detain a female shoplifter, so once she was outside the store we asked hew to wait until the police arrived. She took off running? if that is what a 300 lb female does when she wants to get away. Made it maybe 50 yards into the parking lot before collapsing--- but all of us were collapsing with laughter watching, as she ran, meat of all kind came flying out of her underwear? (we guess), and no one would pick this up. P.S. This was is Alabama!
